MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – Sophomore Ty Watters of the West Virginia College wrestling group will miss the rest of the 2024-25 season as a result of damage.

“We’re actually dissatisfied for Ty,” head coach Tim Flynn mentioned. “I feel there’s hardly a man on this planet who likes to wrestle as a lot as Ty Watters, so from that standpoint, we’re dissatisfied, however we’re glad we’re transferring ahead. It is on the clock now for the countdown to subsequent 12 months, so the constructive is that he will get a medical redshirt, and we can have him for 3 extra years.”

Watters is at present ranked No. 3 within the 149-pound weight class, in line with FloWrestling.

Watters has not competed for West Virginia since Nov. 14, towards Rider. In that match, he received by technical fall over then-No. 24 Sammy Alvarez, 16-1 [T – 5:00].

As a freshman, Watters received a Large 12 title in 2024 and was named an All-American after inserting fourth on the NCAA Division I Championships.

The Mountaineers are at present ranked No. 22 by the Nationwide Wrestling Coaches Affiliation (NWCA) and can host No. 18 Pitt within the Yard Brawl on Sunday, Jan. 12, at 1 p.m. on the WVU Coliseum.
